My name is Oana (pronounced ‘Wanna”, but you won’t offend me if you pronounce it a different way) and I am a freelance graphic designer and illustrator, wife and mother of two.
I am spending my time juggling between taking care of our kindred spirited kiddos, working on projects and everything in between.
I love working with watercolors mainly, but I also use acrylic inks, gouache and recently I’ve been experimenting with screen printing.
Our family recently moved from Europe to the States and we are currently living in Council Bluffs, IA, a few minutes away from Omaha, NE. While in Europe, I graduated the National University of Art in Bucharest, Romania and I also have a Masters in Graphic Design and Visual Communication. Before becoming a freelancer I have worked in advertising agencies doing design work for various clients such as Coca-Cola.
A few months after becoming a new mom I started this blog as a visual journal and as an outlet meant to help me stay inspired and create on a regular basis. On the blog I am sharing a mix of personal projects, sketchbook pages, things I find inspiring, DIY projects/printables, rambles and also bits and pieces of life as a creative, motherhood and family adventures.
Thank you for visiting!

How did you learn to draw? I have always enjoyed drawing since I was a little girl. My love for art grew through the years and through continuous practice I learned more and more.
What kind of camera do you use? I am using a Nikon D7000 with various lenses. My all time favorite lens is the manual focusing Nikon 50mm f/1.2 ais. Also, I sometimes post pictures on the blog that are taken with my iPhone.
What programs do you use to edit your pictures? I am using Adobe Photoshop CS6, Lightroom 4 and VscoFilm.
What brand of watercolors are you using? I am using Schmincke watercolors most of the time, but I also use Winsor & Newton, Sennelier, Van Gogh watercolors and Dr.Ph. Martin’s liquid watercolors. I started a post series about art supplies here.
What type of paper do you use for your watercolor pieces? I have tried many kinds of watercolor paper, but my favorite brands are Arches, Fabriano and Canson.
Can I hire you for a commission? Yes, sure. Please email me to discuss all the details and to get a custom quote.
Where can I buy your art? You can buy some of my art prints (and some originals) from my Etsy store and also from Society6. If you are interested in a specific art piece that is not currently in my shop or if you would like a custom order, please email me.
Where do you like to shop for art supplies? Dick Blick is one of my favorite art stores and Hobby Lobby has a lot of good materials too.
Do you have a middle name? Nope.
What is your family’s nationality? I am a Romanian and my husband is an American, our kids are Romericans. :)
What kind of studies do you have? I studied decorative arts in high school, then I went to college to study graphic design. I have a Masters Degree in Graphic Design and Visual Communication from the National University of Art in Bucharest.
Did you work before becoming a freelance artist? If yes, how was the transition? Yes, I worked at an advertising agency as a Graphic Designer for a few years before giving birth to Sammy. The transition from working beyond full-time to staying at home with a little baby was hard at the beginning, but I’ve learned to take things slowly and to do what I can considering the priorities. Things have gotten a lot better with time and practice.
How do you balance work and family? Honestly, I haven’t found that perfect balance yet.
How did you and your husband meet? We first met while Christmas caroling. We had some good common friends as well so we had many opportunities to hang-out and to get to know each other better.
How is the relationship between you and your husband since you both come from different cultures? I wouldn’t say that we are very different, even if we do come from different cultures. My family is very “international” since I have relatives scattered throughout the world. Although at first I thought that we might not have too much in common, I was soon amazed to discover that we are on the same track in so many areas. We do have different opinions of course and we are not perfect, but our relationship is beautiful. We believe that God brought us together and I am so blessed to have such a wonderful companion.
Are your kids going to speak both English and Romanian? Yes, they will speak both. They have to be able to interact with both sets of grandparents. :)
